You will be picked up from the new port and drive to the
Castle of Bodrum. To obtain stone to build the Castle, the Knight of Rhodes tore down the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, a magnificent tomb that was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. A highlight of the tour will be a visit to the
Sunken Boat Museum, with artifacts found underwater dating from the Bronze Age through the middle ages, including cargo from a Syrian trade ship (13. century BC.).You will also visit the
Carian Princess section to see her beautiful Tiara of gold during your visit to the
Underwater Archaeological Museum of Bodrum in the Castle.
Next, after a short walk, you will visit the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, which is Bodrum’s oldest antiquity and one of the seven wonders of the Ancient World, built by Artemisia II in honor of her husband King Mausolos. The General term for the large tomb is derived from his name. The entire structure stood at over 150 feet tall. The Mausoleum featured frescos and other objects, some of which are now on display in the London museum. Then you will drive back to the new port area and return to the ship or stay in town and enjoy your free time. Then, you can make your own way back to the port.
